Renews Effort to Oust Klan in Pennsylvania
In Pittsburgh on May 23, attorney Van A. Barrickman and fellow Klansmen renewed legal moves to ban the Ku Klux Klan in Pennsylvania. They sent petitions to Attorney General Thomas J. Baldridge seeking quo warranto action to revoke the Klan charter, or Baldridge to intervene in federal court to back Barrickman’s bid for injunctions and receivership. Judge W. H. Thomson previously ruled the federal court lacked jurisdiction and dismissed a Klan damages suit, criticizing the faction for entering equity with filthy hands.
