Warren county to use automatic voting machines for the first time in its election history. Four machines from Automatic Registering Machine Co of Jamestown will be loaned, with three shipments before Saturday and one moved from the Chamber of Commerce. A demonstrator will instruct voters at the city building as ballots and printed alternatives are prepared in case delays occur.
In Yukon West Virginia Yukon Pochontas Coal No 1 mine an explosion killed seventeen workers. Thirteen bodies were recovered early today with four still inside the mine. The mine normally employs about eight hundred sixty men though current shifts were smaller.
Rumors say Pennsylvania and New York Central railroads and the state highway department have discussed a possible overhead or under crossing at the EN crossing near F N tower following a coroner’s jury finding that Clyde E. Baker died in a May 17 1928 collision at the FIN crossing in Gonewange township Warren County. Officials did not discuss changing train schedules to avoid simultaneous trains. District Attorney L E Eddy says steps will be taken to bring the matter to the highway department and seek aid from local motor groups.

Five prominent Phillipsburg women received five day workhouse sentences in West Side court after admitting a spree of petty thefts at Macy’s New York. They confessed the thrill motive, saying they could have bought items but sought excitement. Bailed earlier, the group faced magistrates Vorhees Kelley and Healey amid a crowd of amused locals.
Wall Street welcomed Charles A. Lindbergh's aviation ties with gains for Wright Motors and Curtiss on opening. Trans-Continental Air Transport shares rose as investors bet on Lindbergh's judgment. St Louis announces a $1,000,000 national air service hub with Lindbergh as a probable member and plans to Chicago by August 1, 1928. Knight says Lindbergh will chair the Trans-Continental Air Transport technical committee.
Arrangements were made to schedule a game between Warren High School second team and the American Legion junior league at the outing club Saturday afternoon. State Commander FE Hollenback will visit Warren and attend a Legion dinner at 8:30 p.m. Reservations indicate a well-attended event. Bus transportation is arranged, with departures at 5 p.m. from Citizens Bank Building and evening return after dancing. Hollenback will inspect the Irving Memorial bridge Saturday afternoon. He and Mrs Hollenback will arrive from Erie at noon.
Philadelphia May 25. Dr. Ellwood R. Kirby, Vare family physician attending Senator-elect William S. Vare at his Atlantic City home, said the senator's condition had not improved after a poor night.
The M C A summer camp at Lake Chautauqua opens Friday June 29 and runs two weeks to Friday July 13 under R W Gardner and Doc Golegrove. Camp at Tom's Point draws 50 to 100 boys with staff including David Crossett Jr L Bramer Carlson and others. Camp leaders meet Thursday at 7 30 in the Y offices to plan tent assignments and activities.
Bernard Kersel, a state high school athlete, died at his home in New Philadelphia after leading his team to victory in an interscholastic meet at Schuylkill Haven. He contracted pneumonia shortly after the meet. Helen Shipley, 17, of Uniontown was seriously injured when struck by an automobile driven by Irene McCartney.
President Coolidge vetoed the McNary-Haugen farm relief bill for the second time in two years. The measure would create a federal farm board to supervise surpluses with a $400 million revolving fund, loan and equalization operations, and strict production limits. The veto cited price fixing, tax features, bureaucracy, and aid to foreign agriculture as major objections.
E. J. Wren age 23 was arrested by police in Denver yesterday and held for Beaver Falls Pennsylvania police. Authorities believe he is wanted in Pennsylvania on embezzlement charges.
Erie county Sheriff Tom Sterrett will speak at the Warren Zonta Club luncheon at 12 10 PM in the YWCA. Miss Betty Bristow arranged for the speaker and inviting Rotary Kiwanis and Lions members to attend. reservations close Thursday at 9 AM by calling 450. Lions meet postponed to inter club lunch.
Forecast calls for continued coal tonight and Thursday with slightly warmer temperatures near Lake Evie. Local observations at 8 am show 52 degrees, 2 pm 57. River conditions steady with precipitation changing to pale Thursday.
