John A. Murphy of Pittsburgh was elected grand commander of the Knights Templar of Pennsylvania at the closing session of the grand conclave in Reading. The selection names Boyd A. Musser as retiring commander and Pittsburgh as the 1929 state conclave site. Officers elected include Frank Myers Kingston deputy, James Chickering Oil City grand generalissimo, Clyde Love Harrisburg grand captain general, Maurice White Norristown grand senior warden, Charles Zimmermann Reading grand junior warden, Rev. Robert O Boyle Sunbury grand prelate, A Howard Thomas Philadelphia grand recorder, William Donaldson Harrisburg grand treasurer, H G Braner, John Cheeseman Philadelphia, and Thomas Shipley York grand trustees. Death of Miss Beulah Bauer, daughter of Mr and Mrs George J Bauer of 1801 Pennsylvania avenue east, Greenville, is expected to prompt cancellation of Thiel College spring events. She was to be crowned Queen of the May on May 26, with rehearsals already under way. other college spring activities are said to be cancelled following the illness and death.
Washington May 24 The U S Senate opened in a session that may become a historic filibuster as Senator Hiram Johnson of California urged passage of the Boulder Dam bill while facing a threatened obstruction by Arizona and Utah senators He said he would keep the chamber in session until a vote is taken. Lightning killed eight peasant women and injured eight others in Landsberg Germany on May 24 with three expected to die.
Washington May 24 Farm bloc leaders delayed action on President Coolidge’s veto of the McNary Haugen farm relief measure until tomorrow. The senate agriculture committee met briefly but reached no decision on an override and will reconvene tomorrow.

Two Warren men who hold Tribune accident insurance will receive checks today for injuries. Raymond G. Kittner of 222 Park Avenue gets 25 dollars for a March ankle injury from a slip on rice. Joseph Juliano of 910 Pennsylvania Avenue East receives 20 dollars for injuries from a April 23 street car collision en route to work.
In Pottsville Pennsylvania nine year old George Long died after attempting to cross a street to avoid being late for school. A heavy truck driven by Herman J Micka contractor struck him and he was fatally injured. Witnesses exonerated the driver.
Game Warden Elmer Welson of Sheield visited Warren today on a routine business tour.
In Asuncion two top diplomats, Chilean minister Gonzalo Montt Rivas and Peruvian military attache Lieut. Col. Federico Recabarren, dueled with heavy cavalry sabres under strict conditions. Montt Rivas was lightly wounded in the neck and shoulder, while Recabarren suffered a deep knee slash with serious concern for his condition. The clash followed an article by Recabarren in La Tribuna marking the battle anniversary of Iquique in the 1897 1882 Sino boundary war context.
General Umberto Nobile and the Italia en route back to Spitzbergen after reaching the north pole briefly at 12 25 a m local time.
