Mrs Louis Sherman of Freehold township died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday evening near Lottsville. Funeral services will be at the Wrightsville Lutheran church Thursday at 2 pm with a morning prayer at the home. Interment in Wrightsville Cemetery. Coroner and police report say the 32 caliber revolver bullet struck the heart. the death followed her husband leaving the car in the garage. Mrs Sherman had previously sought mental treatment. Surviving children are Myra and Martha McIntyre, ages 4 and 7, plus Mrs John Spetz of Spring Creek and her husband Sherman, who is Freehold township tax collector and constable.

Daylight saving was voted down 1 to 7 at the May borough council meeting. The public service committee led by D L Lewis did not report for or against the proposition. A roll call vote followed an unsuccessful acclamation. Present were James H Perks Donald McComas Chester Allen Harold Blair and Geo Sarvis. Yeas included Blair plus several others with no discussion before the motion was placed.
Warren borough school board elected the summer school staff for grade pupils needing improved marks after illness or failure. Superintendent Pressel recommended Margaret Corbin as head, Edith Berkman, Elizabeth Van Imvanne, Elizabeth Wells, Sadie Corbin also selected with Hilda Carlson as alternate. Start date and term length were not announced.
In Bloomington Illinois on May 8 two firemen were killed and three others seriously injured when a wall collapsed during a business district blaze at the J. E. Will furniture store. Six firefighters were buried in debris. identified dead are Louis Payton and Walter Moline. Injured are Charles Smith Frank Peyon and Louia Browning.
Greenville residents faced a relief day as rain slowed and the Table Rock Cove dam stopped crumbling. Red Cross aid aided refugees from the South Saluda valley while Piedmont Manufacturing urged workers back after factory shutdowns. Some residents threatened to sue Greenville over damages and leases tied to the dam’s proximity.
Fifteen Warren Chamber of Commerce directors were elected by ballot this morning with Emory C. Cook as secretary. Four new directors include J. W. Hazeltine Harry Lewis H. P. Stone and Frank Redding. Officers to be elected at the next organization meeting. Burgess L. Chapman serves as ex officio director.
A vacant farmhouse on Jackson Street Extension owned by Andrew Homan burned to the ground at 9 this morning. Neighbors attempted to douse the flames with a bucket brigade but failed. The Bryan family had occupied the house until a week ago. Sparks endangered a nearby barn owned by A. L. Chapman. The cause is unknown.
New York May 8 Henry Ford said on his return aboard the Majestic that he is confident the current prosperity in the United States will continue. He noted the business outlook is good and found no factor in sight to disturb the future.
Borough council met Monday night and adjourned to May 14 to select a bid for a street department project. They accepted the resignation of Chester S. Allen from the parks committee, nominated Robert Weakley to succeed him, approved a sewer pump for Conenango avenue, and passed a third reading ordinance on Home street. Steps were postponed to May 14 for widening Pennsylvania avenue, directed repairs to the Fourth Ward fire building, and set July for a report on codifying license regulations. Fire committee to study a Oneida avenue hydrant and report May 14. Linoleum replacement authorized for police headquarters office.
Supreme President Mion Bina M. West of Port Huron Michigan founder and head of the Woman's Benefit Association was honored at a luncheon today in the Warren YWCA Activities building. The event drew members from Warren Kane Sheffield Russell Bunza Tiona Tidionte Clarendon Pittsfield and Jamestown among others and featured notable speakers and a musical program. West toured Pennsylvania earlier, attending rallies with Miss Nellie E. Lounsbury and was feted in Corry and Kane last night.
Fred Walters of Oil City and pilot Sandy Underwood of Texas arranged for Walters Flying Circus to perform in Warren late this week. Walters operates Travel Air planes with licensed pilots and has contracts for thirty eight aircraft. The circus previously drew over three hundred riders in Oil City and will set up on the West End flats for field preparations.
Borough council authorized the purchase of two tear gas clubs and extra cartridges for about 60 dollars. C W Baris cited readiness for liquor aids and other duties, noting Warren’s history and the clubs resemble nightsticks but eject gas via a trigger.
