The Bank of Liverpool cashier Henry Goudie vanishes after lunch as 175000 pounds disappear from the till. Scotland Yard detective Frank Freast traces a clue to a cloth cap and uncovers a gambling ring that manipulated Goudie into borrowing funds to bet on a fixed race at Epsom Downs. Goudie is jailed for ten years and most stolen money is recovered.
A $1,000,000 draft horse and cattle parade will headline the Michigan State Fair, August 31 to September 9. About 1,500 cattle and over 500 draft horses will be shown, with one-fourth paraded nightly in the Coliseum to inspire better stock and farming. Premiums total $12,676 for the horse division. entries close August 11, and exhibits close September 8. Officials include John Endicott, Howard C. Allen, C. F. Curtiss, Henry L. Bell, and Walter Palmer. thorough disinfection and safety measures will be observed.
George W. Dickinson secretary of the Michigan State Fair announced a schedule for an art exhibit series titled How to Use Your Talent at Home. Prepared by H. M. Kurtzworth of the Kansas City Art Institute the program offers daily demonstrations by craftsmen and designers to help talented people discover and use home decor skills.
The Board of County Road Commissioners will receive bids at the Court House in Bessemer until 1:30 PM on August 6 1923 for widening a section of the Marenisco Winvar Road.
