Mr. Linton Wooten Jr of Calhoun county Georgia died August 3 from heart failure. He was the youngest brother of Col G W Wooten of our city. His death was greatly regretted by all who knew him.

Lawrence Bryan Wedding in Vienna City

A beautiful wedding in Vienna united Prof H J Lawrence and Miss Mary Rix Bryan at the Methodist church on Wednesday night. The ceremony was led by Rev J M Robinson with a large crowd in attendance and a reception at the bride’s sister’s home. They will reside in Canton Ga as he assumes a school post there.

Fire destroys two Cordele residences

About 8 o clock last Thursday night a fire at Col. C. J. Shipp’s residence on eleventh street spread to a nearby house owned by B. P. O’Neal and occupied by Col. Ellis. Both homes burned to the ground with total loss around $2,000. O’Neal carried about $600 in insurance. Shipp’s insured amount is unspecified.

Elijah John Lewis Dies in Chester at 17

Elijah John Lewis age 17 died in Chester South Carolina on the 6th from appendicitis while returning from Montezuma for a merchandise purchase. He was the son of Hon. W. B. Lewis and nephew of Minor Lewis. A surgical operation was performed but proved fatal. The funeral will be at the city cemetery with all business suspended. The coroner's inquest found the child born dead and no criminal conduct.

Peculiar birth in a doctor's office ends with found infant

Jerry Osborne and his wife from Richwood sought treatment from Dr R M Brown. In the office the wife delivered a stillborn baby who was left with the physician. Unable to preserve it, Brown placed the body in a pan on a vacant lot awaiting burial, but someone found it after a Saturday call to the country.

On Monday afternoon Mess I J and K R Lewis bought out the stock of General Merchandise of Mr J C Hamilton. The new firm will continue at the same place with a fresh line of dry goods and groceries. The Progress wishes the new firm success.

Readers are urged to register as Vienna welcomes about 50 bales of cotton this year. Numerous locals like Mr J Speight, Mr Lewis Roebuck, and Dr J A Ward are noted for short visits, illnesses, and recoveries. The Vienna High School opens August 8, and communications should reach the press by Wednesday.
