Soldiers' families notified within 24 hours after lists
The War Department explains that relatives of soldiers named in casualty lists from France are notified within 24 hours. A statistical division maintains files of names and addresses, dispatches telegrams, and uses form letters to inform next of kin as soon as lists arrive from Gen Pershing, with delays due to clerical errors or security considerations.
