The Phi pool and billiard parlor on Railroad Avenue faced a license jump from 1500 to 3000. City also kept full schedule of business licenses with minor changes. Street tax set at 3.00 if paid by March 1, otherwise 4.00. Chief Mallard to be mounted, city to feed him.
Chester Shuman plans a new market and grocery at the former J W Human stand on Railroad Avenue and will open at an early date. The remodeling of the building is underway this week.
The Vidalia Kiwanis Club celebrated its first anniversary at the New Vidalia Hotel with members, wives, and friends in attendance. W J DeLoach reviewed a year of achievements including business and professional men joining to aid the town, while women from the Woman's Club praised the club's contributions.
Thieves raided the Armour residence garage on Church street Tuesday night and stole his Ford touring car. The loss was not discovered until Wednesday morning, with no clues yet as to the culprits or location of the vehicle.
County commissioners decide to contract for a farm and a home demonstrator for the coming year after the resignation of County Policeman J. D. Mallard. They will coordinate with state authorities to select the agents who will start work soon, with the farm demonstrator to focus on market expertise and helping farmers market crops.
The Masonic Institute led by Mr. Guy Thurman under Grand Lodge of Georgia Masons drew many visitors this week. Local officers praised the uniform work program as instructive and enjoyable for all attending Masons.
Mrs J T Ragan entertained the Round Dozen Club last Thursday afternoon. Three tables were set in the decorated living room with several visitors and regular members. Refreshments were served after the game, with Mrs J B Warthen assisting. Miss Annie Wicker made the top score.
The Ashburn creamery, at the end of its third month, yields about 5,000 pounds of butter weekly and aims to be on a paying basis by mid year. Supported by nearby ice, curing, meat, and distribution plants, dairying helps bolster local farm income as farmers invest in registered cows and pasture improvements with county agent Ralls assisting pasture formation. Farmers are urged to save cream, upgrade herd quality, build efficient milking facilities, and feed warm skim milk to calves and hogs as part of a county program to boost dairy profitability.
Doctors T C Thompson J E Mercer and John M Meadows attended January session of the Twelfth District Medical Society in Dublin where a strong program of scientific papers was presented. Dr Thompson presided as president and Cochran was selected to host the next gathering.
Willie Arthur Brandon, 15, from Cedar Crossing, was treated for appendicitis at a local hospital. After peritonitis and pneumonia developed, he died Tuesday night following a brave fight. The body was returned to Cedar Crossing for burial.
Mrs. D. F. Clark visits brother in Washington D C while Mr. Clark and children stay with relatives in Alston. C M Phillips sells grocery to J R Love who takes charge this week and moves stock to Mathews space on McIntosh street. Phillips also accepts railroad job.
At the annual meeting of the First National Bank there was little change in directors and officers. L D Williamson, a former director, was dropped from the board at his request due to illness. Directors include W O Donovan, Geo S Rountree, J W Sharpe, D C Pattillo, C P Phillips. Officers are W O Donovan president, J W Sharpe vice president, D C Pattillo vice president, Geo S Rountree cashier, T W Williers Jr assistant cashier.
The regular monthly P T A meeting will be held in the school auditorium on Friday at 3 30 with a program on Relative Responsibilities of Home and School A welcome note from Hon P P Claxton former U S Commissioner of Education now president of the University of Alabama is included and lists hostess committee members.
J C Timmerman Jr entertained twelve friends Tuesday evening at his Jackson street home for his fourteenth birthday. Rook was played and a sweet course was served afterward.
Vidalia businessman E. T. McBride opens a cash market to buy hogs cattle and all farm products. He provides fitted facilities near the old sash and door factory with hog and cattle pens warehouse space and expects to ship two carloads of hogs and several of cattle this week. A potato curing house with twenty thousand bushel capacity is planned for next year to help farmers secure better prices.
