County teachers are being paid after persistent effort by the county board of education and Superintendent Youmans. The turnaround comes as the year progresses with taxes collected rapidly, ensuring teachers receive their previously delayed wages.

Chester Shuman plans a new market and grocery on Railroad Avenue after renting a building. He has ordered modern sanitary fixtures and expects to begin business in the latter part of next week. He is formerly associated with the S. R. Shuman Market and aims for up-to-date facilities.
At a Tuesday meeting held at Claude Christian’s home the Baptist church Men’s Bible Class announced officers for the coming year. Claude Christian was named president with CC Cutler as 1st vice president Sig Holmes as 2nd vice president and H A Threlkeld as 3rd vice president T R Armour as secretary and treasurer J T B Anderson as teacher and R M Stanley as assistant teacher.
Mrs. J. S. Rees and Miss Irma Iicks were honored guests as Rev. and Mrs. J. T. B. Anderst returned home from Charlotte after a visit. Notice states the bakery has raised bread price to 8 cents per loaf.
The Soriority Singers a ladies quartet from Savannah are next in the local lyceum course appearing at city hall Friday at 8 30 PM.

Total fire loss 25370 dollars with property exposure 262450 dollars, noting losses under 10 percent and improvements like new hose and coats. Chief M A Russell commends cooperation of officials and outlines hose needs and condition.
Federal tax revisions voted last month now apply. The new rules remove eight percent levies on rail fares and travel by ships and freight, roll back luxury taxes on clothing, shoes, cosmetics, and amusements, and retain several existing taxes including those on tobacco, cars, and bonds while introducing new manufacturing levies.
Dr. F L Huie hosted a social oyster roast Tuesday evening at the light plant. Tables lined the boiler room as Superintendent Tate and Engineer Knies served oysters piping hot to a number of his friends.
The Vidalia Public School spring term will begin Monday January 9. Entrance cards will be issued Saturday by Prof. W L Downs at his office. The fee for the entrance card is 2.50 dollars and all pupils must have one.
D C Pattillo serves as president and W A Jones as secretary as a new Kiwanis board assumes duties for the coming year. The Christmas baskets committee reports its work brought cheer to many children and the club plans a larger effort next Christmas. Ladies Night is set for next Monday with dinner at eight, marking the club’s first anniversary.
The First National Bank board met Saturday and declared the usual dividend. Checks were mailed to stockholders this week. Despite a tough year for regional banks, First National shows solid management in its December 31 report. The annual stockholders meeting is set for next Tuesday to appoint directors and officers for the year ahead.
Mrs F C Omberg is the proud owner of a Ford Coupe a Christmas present from Mr Omberg found waiting for her on her return home Monday.
J D Mallard elected chief of police for the year after ten applicants. J M Hall of Soperton named assistant. J H Duggan re-elected clerk and C Tate remains superintendent of the city light plant. New mayor is B P Jackson and councilmen listed with committees formed. Retrenchment leads to salary cuts for key posts. A called meeting Friday will adopt the new business license schedule.
Rev W M Blitch and church officials designate next Sunday as Family Day at the Vidalia Methodist Church. All local Methodist families receive notices to attend the morning service with a special musical program a short talk by the pastor and talks by several church officials.
