County Board discussed extending state highway to Lyons

Absence of Commissioner McCullough and illness of Chairman Odom limited action at Lyons meeting. Mr Parker from the State Highway Department discussed continuing the Montgomery county project to Lyons with hopes for action next Monday. The board also planned tick eradication work and joined the 12th district highway association to discuss intercounty connections.

Council Orders Sewer Survey And City Officials Appointed

At a Monday meeting the city council contracted a full survey of sewerage with J B McCrary Co to include cost estimates and specifications. The map will be updated and some work may finish within two weeks. The council may order sewer bonds if costs stay within debt limits. G W Leveritt named sanitary inspector and M A Russell elected fire chief with J T Steptoe as assistant. new hose purchased. Street committee to set contract for Railroad avenue curbing and guttering per prior agreement with property owners.

Farmers Increasing Dewberry Acreage In South Georgia

F. M. Connor of Seaboard Air Line Railway promotes dewberry expansion in South Georgia. The 18.75 acres in the Vidalia area show potential for a carload trade, with costs around 35 dollars per acre and vines bearing from year two to four. Local growers include A. S. Blount and others who have already earned substantial sales from berries.

Income tax due on or before March 15th

Attention taxpayers in Vidalia Georgia. The notice requires filing a 1920 income tax return by March 15 1921 with thresholds of 1000 for single filers and 2900 for married couples with dependents. The local collector will provide forms and assist at the Vidalia post office on February 14 and 15.

Oliver Injured in Town Auto Crash

Mr R W Oliver and his two daughters Leila and Norma Lou were in a buggy hit by a touring car Wednesday night near Vidalia. Oliver was unconscious with a bruised shoulder and facial cut. the two daughters escaped unharmed. The other driver fled after the high speed impact near Darby Lumber Co guiding the car back toward town.

Important Meeting of Ex-Service Men in Lyons

Lyons hosts an American Legion event inviting ex service men to a February 16 session with five government department representatives from War Risk Insurance Federal Vocational Board Public Health and American Legion leadership to discuss rights health aid and future plans. The event also invites Ladies Auxiliary members and is led by G H Williams commander and T Ross Sharpe adjutant of Bob Toombs Post No 27.

Doctor Palmer Injured in Auto Collision on Curve

Dr. J. W. Palmer of Riley received serious injuries when another car crashed into his vehicle on a curve Tuesday. He suffered multiple broken ribs and other minor injuries as a result of the collision, which he says was unavoidable because the other driver was looking rearward.

Georgia Railroad Commission approves Bell Telephone rate hikes

The Georgia Railroad Commission voted three to two to allow most Bell Telephone Company rate increases across Georgia, totaling about 900000 dollars in annual revenue. New monthly charges appear in Vidalia Claxton Lyons and Lumber City for various party line and extension options with March 1 effective date. Vidalia customers face one of the lower boosts among Georgia towns.

Vidalia Kiwanis Club unanimously backs sewer system for the city and names a committee to work with the city council. Guest speakers from Stephens Engineering Co and McCrary Co discuss costs, with an estimated $60,000 to reach every white resident. Construction to focus on summer labor to keep funds local.
