Board takes no action on highway project plan

At a called meeting the Toombs County Board of Commissioners postponed action on building a highway from the Montgomery county line to Lyons. They will wait for engineers from the state and national highway departments to present figures and conditions before committing. The board did approve dip operations starting in March, reducing supervisor salaries to 75 dollars a month and assigning three supervisors to cover twelve vats each.

12th District Dentists May Meet in Vidalia

Drs. F L Huie and L H Darby spent last Thursday in Hawkinsville for the 12th District Dental Association meeting. They reported good attendance and an interesting program. No next meeting site was chosen, officers to decide. Vidalia delegates invited the dentists to return, with a possible acceptance.

Malcolm Jackson Dies at Home in Collins

Malcolm D. Jackson aged 34 and son of Mr and Mrs D A Jackson of near the city died at his Collins home Sunday morning after a brief pneumonia illness. Funeral services were Monday at North Thompson church conducted by Rev McDaniel of Collins. He is survived by his wife a daughter of Mr and Mrs Geo Wilson three children his father and mother and eleven brothers and five sisters.

Glenwood Wins Close Game On Local Court

Glenwood basketball edged Vidalia 5 to 4 on the local court last Thursday. Vidalia also beat Graymont 16 to 14 at Graymont-Summit last Friday. The twin city team travels to Vidalia today for a return game as girls prepare for Claxton and Metter next week.

Kiwanis Club Hosts Vidalia Scouts Dinner Event

The Kiwanis Club entertained forty two Boy Scouts of Vidalia at a weekly supper. Scouts led the program with oath laws songs and demonstrations of tenderfoot to first class. Remarks praised the scoutmaster and the boys character. A charter presentation night was planned for Thursday at Colonial.

Dipping Returns in Toombs County March First

Dr. H F J Arundel in charge of tick eradication says dipping in Toombs will resume March 1 and, with public cooperation, hopes to finish by July 1. Dipping dates at vats will be announced next week. Cattle shipments remain strong with nearly a thousand head moved in Montgomery Toombs counties since year start, including a carload to Savannah and four cars from Riley.

Vidalia Boy Scouts marked Anniversary Week with a community cleanup and events at the Scout Hut and city hall service. Sanitary Inspector Leveritt praised the effort as leaders and Rev. Sam Green Behind Bars After Farming Scams

Sam Green, a county fraudster who for about two years cheated farmers out of sums by promising to move on their land, has been captured and jailed in Lyons awaiting trial. He allegedly met farmers, sought advances of 15 to 25 dollars, pocketed them, and disappeared, with the sheriff finally locating him.

Funeral services for Mrs Frances Jackson held Friday

Funeral services for Mrs Frances Jackson, who died early Thursday at the family home on Church Street, were conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at the Methodist church by Rev W M Blitch. The pastor spoke of her life and good influence. Many floral offerings indicated wide, caring friends. Interment was at Pine Crest cemetery.
