Cotton can be grown under boll weevil conditions in Georgia
The Georgia State Board of Entomology reports successful cotton growth at Thomasville Valdosta and Baxley stations using Calcium Arsenate despite heavy boll weevil infestation. Yields reached 18 bales on 36 acres at Thomasville 11 bales on 18 acres at Valdosta and one bale per acre at Baxley with rain challenges. The board urges early dusting, regular dusting even in rain, picking up punctured squares and, if needed, two to three applications of Calcium Arsenate. Regulations require Calcium Arsenate registration inspection tagging and fertilizer-style sampling. The legislature authorized a $10 000 revolving fund for bulk purchase to sell calcium arsenate at cost to farmers. By I W Williams General Field Agent.
