Meeting Turns Violent Between Hui e and Mayor in Kiwanis Fight

Monday night observers report a brawl during a Kiwanis Club meeting with Mayor B P Jagk and Councilman F L Huie involved. Members intervened as chairs tossed and laughter hid the skirmish while attempts to restore order were led by President DeLoach.

Considerable building underway in Vidalia city

Ongoing construction reports show rapid progress on a new post office building on Meadows Street to be ready by year start. Interior work continues at the Baptist church with classrooms nearing completion. A bungalow on McIntosh Street by M F Davis nears completion with the Davis family planning to move in soon. The J N Patrick home on Church Street is being remodeled along with another residence on Church Street at W J Detoach.

Masons Attend Special Service at Vidalia Lodge

Under Vidalia Lodge F and A M auspices union services were held at the city auditorium Sunday evening with Rev W M Blitch delivering a sermon. I D Stewart acted as master of ceremonies and a special musical program was presented by a quartet and two soloists. The offering will be divided among church orphanages and organizers plan to make the service an annual feature.

Toombs County Road Tax Defaulters on Trial

The December session of Toombs County Commissioners focused on road tax defaulters with over a hundred cases heard. A next session will tackle defaulters in districts 51st 1403rd 1521st 1715th and 1770th. Forty three were convicted and fined from 6 to 20 dollars with 10 to 20 days on the chain gang. several defendants may appeal.

Business Men's Class Bird Supper Delights Church Members

Last Friday evening in the basement of the new church the Business Men's Class of the Baptist Sunday school enjoyed a delightful bird supper served by the ladies. The event drew many guests and featured vocal solos by Mrs Threlkeld Meadows Tom Armour and Miss Waller readings. Each member spoke briefly and the class, led by W. O. Donovan as president with T. R. Armour as vice president and R. A. Mayer as secretary treasurer, is expanding its church work.

Giles Poised to Seek Judge's Seat in Middle Circuit

Col Enoch J Giles of Lyons appears ready to run for judge of the Superior court in the Middle Judicial Circuit. He is a prominent attorney with extensive practice across Toombs and surrounding counties and farms seven miles south of Lyons. Pressure from friends and attorneys statewide suggests an early campaign may begin.

Anker Helps Floyd County Farmers Start Dairy Move

John M. Graham of National City Bank of Rome launches dairy farming among Floyd county farmers. The bank buys 100 high grade cows at cost to noncustomers, offers financing to equip dairies, and prints posters with guidance urging diversification from cotton and backing dairy development.

Medical Society to Host Oyster Roast at Vidalia

The Tri County Medical Society holds its regular monthly meeting at Vidalia Hospital next Wednesday evening. After the business session, Dr. T. C. Thompson will host an oyster roast at the light plant for members.

Mrs I J Harrell entertained the Salmagundi Club at its regular Wednesday gathering. The home featured holiday color decorations and refreshments. Four members tied for top score with Mrs DeLoach winning the drawing.

A Roberts Dead Vidalia Man Remembered Civil War Veteran

Mr. T. A. Roberts of Vidalia died Wednesday at age about 72 at his son's home, J. L. Roberts. The body was taken to Pembroke for funeral services conducted by Rev. W. M. Blitch. A veteran of the 60's Gray, he served gallantly in the Confederate cause during the Civil War.

Uvalda Man's Arm Torn Off In Saw Mill Accident

Frank Mobley of Uvalda was injured Tuesday when his left arm was torn from the shoulder after getting caught in saw mill machinery. He was rushed to Vidalia Hospital and was reported resting comfortably Thursday.

Williamson Boys Give Up Sunday

Fulton and Foster Williamson surrendered Sunday after being named in the November grand jury indictment for the murder of Otis Holmes. They were placed in Chatham county jail in Savannah Wednesday morning following a conference with state attorneys. Their bondsmen were released and Toombs jail deemed unsafe, prompting the transfer to Savannah to prevent escape before trial.
