Stake MIA Music Festival Pleases Crowd on Tuesday
The annual Stake MIA festival at Vernal First Ward chapel drew praise as a standout event with Grant Hacking as general chairman and Mrs Elwin A Simmons directing music. Performers included the Walker sisters trio, Mrs Louis dams, and a special mixed chorus. The program featured vocal solos, instrumental numbers, and a brass sextet under Clyde L. Johnson, with a two month old James Edward celebrating his birth Friday May 17 at the LDS Hospital. Donna Williams spent the weekend in Salt Lake.

Seminary Group Takes Three Day Excursion
About 60 members of the Vernal seminary graduating class joined a three day trip visiting Salt Lake City and Provo. They met President George Albert Smith at the LDS Church Office Building, toured facilities including Memory Grove, the Deseret News, and the Geneva Steel plant, and attended church and campus events. N Kimball led the outing as seminary principal.

Plans for sinking two wildcat test wells three miles south of Artesia were discussed with work expected to start within weeks by Reserve Drilling Co of Casper Wyoming and JE R McElroy of Denver, plus Oklahoma Of Company. Nyals Andreason Discharged from Naval Reserve Duty
Nyals Andreason Uintah high school speech director from 1930 to 1940 was released from the naval reserve last week. Lt Andreason served as a communication officer on the staff of Admiral Wilkingon and Admiral Spruance, with duties in Japan during V-J Day and on the staff of Officers Towers and Sherman. He returned to the states aboard the USS Iowa with Mrs Andreason, formerly Alta Fox.
School board tackles vandalism and delinquency surge
Uintah district officials report a wave of student vandalism at Uintah High School including broken windows theft of lunchroom food and damage to equipment. The board heard from Principal Harold Lundell teachers students and parents about escalating disrespect and property destruction amid growth in juvenile delinquency as they weigh disciplinary actions and suspensions.
