U of Utah Scientists Study Cancer Grants

University of Utah researchers De. W. W. Newby and Dr. Eldon Gardner under an American Cancer Society grant study cancer-like growths in Mexican fruit fly strains. They observe tumor growth on the head, how temperature affects incidence, and potential malignancy, tying results to gene changes on chromosome three or eight. Separate work by Dr. Fayette E. Stephens will trace stomach cancer heredity through family histories, using Mormon polygamy histories to compare maternal and paternal genetic influences.
