Vernal Area Students Win Top Honors At USU Initiations
Four Uintah County seniors attending Utah State University will be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi on May 6 in the Sky Room Union Building. A banquet honors the 1962 initiates from the upper 10 percent of the graduating class. The four Vernal area students are Clayton Huber of Lapoint Sandra Hacking of Maeser Elaine Angus of Ballard and Diane Taylor of Tundlett. Each has strong grades and active campus roles, with plans ranging from graduate study to teaching in Utah districts. Diane Taylor, Elaine Angus, and Sandra Hacking were all honors students in Uintah High School’s 1958 class.

Finance Assn Leaders At Vernal Local Lunch
Vernal civic and business leaders attended a noon meeting of the Utah Consumers Finance Association at Hotel Vernal. Director Russell Weller spoke on regulation and abuses in the industry, noting one in five Americans use finance companies and urging credit education amid a 600 percent bankruptcy rise over ten years. He criticized debt consolidation without adherence to payoff plans and called for economic literacy in schools. Also present were Henry M. Day and Charles Willama of Salt Lake City, and visitors Mr. and Mrs. James Campbell and family of Denver.

Engineer Aid Promised in Case of Floods
Rep Day 5 King Just received a promise of complete cooperation from the Army Corps of Engineers to monitor the Duchesne River during late spring floods. He logged a report from the San Francisco office and said daily readings would begin immediately at the first sign of flood. He urged faster action on inadequate Roosevelt to Uinta Mountains access and cross reservation paths.

Ulatah School District announces an eight week summer music program for grades five through twelve led by Dean Pace and Roy Ferrin.
