Weekend Road Toll Brings Three Fatalities and Collision
A two car crash on US 40 near Second West in Vernal caused $700 in damages and one driver cited for following too closely. The collision occurred at 5:30 p.m. Sunday between a 1950 Oldsmobile driven by Richard Rasmussen, 18, of 235 South 2nd East, and a 1961 Pontiac driven by Vern Jorgensen, 41, of Dutch John. Rasmussen slowed for a right turning car. Jorgensen looked back and struck Rasmussen. Three other fatalities from Utah traffic accidents over the weekend were reported, including Lewis Cesspooch, 60, and George Cesspooch, 34, in a Neadon crash on Highway 209 near Leota. Cesspooch several others were injured. Trooper Leonard Fergusson investigated. two first-aid students aided at the scene. Joint funerals were held for George and Lewis Cesspooch in Randolph. Lewis Cesspooch was born December 21, 1892, in Ioka, Duchesne County, son of Juan and Elfen Tuck, and served in World War II and Korea with U.S. Army airborne troops. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. Surviving are his parents, Trandlett, two sisters, and other relatives. (Continued on page B)

Footings were installed this week for a new business and a professional building on 1st North between Vernal Avenue and 1st East. The Vernal Drug Company will own the two thousand square foot structure with two initial offices and plans for expansion. Occupancy is scheduled for August.

Salt Lake Firm Low Bidder On Fieldhouse Job
A Salt Lake City contractor submitted the apparent low bid of 33 673 for the addition to Utah Fieldhouse of Natural History. The State Building Board opened two bids with Stallings and Wall Construction Co the low bidder and Royal B Henderson of Vernal the other at 34 950. The architect’s estimate was 34 000. Construction will take about 00 days with Utah State Park and Recreation Commission overseeing the project.

Jr Horselovers Ride Lures 136 Saturday
About 136 riders joined one of the largest nags rides in the internal area. The Dinaha Community Day trip was organized by the Junior Horse Lovers IE Club led by Leland McNeill with help from Mrs. Ken Stringham O J Barnett Gaylen Oeks president of the club which has about 70 members. Riders were taken to Doe's Beach then to Steinaker Dam for lunch and entertainment. A Utah State University photographer filmed moving pictures for later TV showings. Western Petroleum Basain Machine and Welding funded the lunch. Officers say the event will become an annual affair.

Weigh Station Site Decided Vernal Chamber Hears

Saturday Night Crash Wrecks Two Older Autos
Two older cars were nearly total losses after a Saturday night collision one mile east of Naples on U S 40 at a county road intersection. Edwin D Jenkins 14 of Payson drove a 1952 Pontiac sedan and Eldin Roy Hicks 31 of 400 East Malina 1050 Buick were involved. Jenkins was cited for improper turn while Hicks received a ticket for improper pass. Trooper St M Herrington of Utah Highway Patrol investigated.
