Painting Hints From Painters on Cost and Labor Choices
Painters say the best paint is the cheapest overall because labor costs dominate. Cheaper paints may require more labor due to poor coverage and cracking risks. New wood must be cleaned, dirt removed, and sap or knots treated before painting to prevent defects.
House painting prep and repair steps described
The text outlines coating with shellac before painting and filling cracks with white lead putty after priming. Remove loose paint from blistered spots caused by water leaks, scrape to bare wood, and sand smooth. Touch up edges with paint before the first overall coat.
