Vernal editor urges early Flaming Gorge completion for power
Len Watkins told The Vernal Express that Senator Hedging to Secretary Seaton urged finishing Flaming Gorge as soon as possible even if the smaller dam is completed three to four years earlier. He cited urgent power for northeastern Utah, Wyoming and Colorado and the need to support industrial development and defense related facilities in the Utah Wyoming Colorado New Mexico region.

Balmy February Cuts Snow Across Basin in SCS Readings
Salt Conservation Service reports February weather reduced snow packs across most drainages with only two exceptions. A February 24 25 storm added about four inches of new snow in the mountains and February precipitation rose by about an inch. Readings on March 1 show lower snow depth than last year and well below five year averages in eastern areas, with slightly higher but still below average totals in the west.

Mrs Caton survived by husband Irvin Eaton and four children Elva Davis Marsale Siddoway Coral Eaton and Gwena Bricker and 13 grandchildren The Caton couple celebrated 65 years of marriage last week. Vernal family plans relocation in about two weeks.

Delegations Seek Road Fixes From Uintah County Board
Uintah County commissioners heard delegations on road improvements including a nine mile route into Dry Ports cave area known as the petroglyphs. Gabrael Millecam Grant Merrell and Sadie McConkie urged the project offering Virtus McConkie deed of right of way. Other requests came from Willow Creek Randlett and Steinaker Draw. The board will study feasibility and consult engineers and the Legion on landscaping and a US 40 approach. A total of 536 dollars was granted to Bill Hart of the Forest Service for District Fire Control.

A C of C tour near Vernal highlighted a 15 percent rate increase requests at a hearing in Salt Lake City. Jack O Turner, chair of the agricultural committee, was commended by President Sten Sowards. Leaders Ken Stringham and Sid Merkley led the party with others from Ouray cattlemen and WPA groups visiting Dudley poultry farm Iran Merrill Arabian horse stables Sterling Cook ranch and more. County officials said the new county building funds saved fifty thousand dollars and completion is hoped by Christmas with most workers local.
