Vernal Doughboy Statue Patched After Suspected Accident
The World War I doughboy statue on the county building lawn was damaged when a rifle barrel buckled and a bayonet broke off. It took the welder 2% hours to repair the wrist and the project will be moved during the new county building’s construction. The memorial, funded by schoolchildren and residents, honors locals who served in WWI, with 13 dead among 300 service members.

Uranium Found in Asphalt Ridge Rocks in US Survey Area
US Geological Survey reports significant uranium amounts in asphalt bearing rocks across eight states including Utah Wyoming Montana New Mexico Texas Oklahoma and Missouri. Of 45 areas tested seven showed uranium contents ranging from 0.028 to 0.378 percent according to the Division of Raw Materials for the Atomic Energy Commission.
