Uintah High School finished sixth in the Class GB state tournament at BYU in Provo after a tough run. Key players Gardner and Drollinger led the charge while injuries limited top form. Uintah edged Judge Memorial 37 36, then beat Cedar City 58 40 before losing to Parowan 40 40 and North Sanpete 50 42. Senior leaders Gardiner, Drollinger, Lee, Adams, Campbell and Glines ended their Uintah careers amid a strong playoff run and a broader prep for the All Church playoffs through Friday at Union High School in Roosevelt with teams from Duchesne Roosevelt Uintah Ashley and Denver stake contingents.

A fire Friday at 10 pm destroyed a chicken coop on the Ivan Slaugh property about a mile north on West. Firefighters stopped spread to nearby buildings. damage estimated at 1500 dollars. Mrs Slaugh and her family returned home from a movie, then noticed a red glow and alerted crews.

Two Maeser youths survive car plunge into Provo River
Michael Hall and Ralph Coldwell narrowly escaped drowning Saturday near Wildwood after their car rolled into ice filled Provo River following a BYU party ride home. The car toppled 20 feet down an embankment, water flooded the windshield, the driver’s door jammed, and the flood pressure eased only when the current flipped the car. Hall wriggled free and the two swam to shore as lights flickered underwater. Continued on page 8.

Native group to perform island songs and dances at stake
Music committees of Uintah and Ashley stakes sponsor a program of island songs and dances on Saturday March 22 at 1 PM in VHS auditorium. About 30 performers, including DYA students native to Navai, New Zealand, and other South Sea Islands, will participate. Funds raised will help purchase an organ for the stake tabernacle.
