Martha May Timothy Johnson of Uintah Basin Federated Women's Clubs is chosen to represent Utah in the national Mother of the Year contest. Born 1880 in Wallsburg, she has served missions in Finland and Sweden, taught at church and school levels, and supported a large family with extensive community roles.

Barbara Ray a Union High School senior won first place at Uintah High School for the district American Legion oratorical contest. Alta i?mont’s Joe Kemp placed second and Kent Jensen of Union third. Colleen Bingham of Uintah earned a fourth place trophy but was hampered by a miscommunication about an extemporaneous component.

JoAnn Christensen becomes acting treasurer of the Sigma Janpe sorority at Utah State Agricultural College. Her twin sister Janet serves as House Manager. Both seniors, JoAnn majors in agricultural science and Janet in home economics education. Sigma Kappa is the campus's youngest sorority. the year’s big event is the Idea of March formal and other socials.

Coca-Cola Bottling Company completed a modern 6,000 square foot plant on North Vernal Avenue with design by Fred L. Markham Associates. The Western Coca Cola Bottling Company of Chicago engineered the line. CPA Construction Co. built it. An open house will be held for the public.

Harold Richardson leases the Texaco service station at 199 West Main, formerly run by Chuck Harrison, renaming it Hal's Texaco. He has 15 years in wholesale gasoline and four years as a Texaco distributor for the Uintah Basin.
