Remembering the GI Troops in Uintah Basin History
Fragment from a Vernal Utah reminiscence recounts the arrival of cavalry and colored troops in the Uintah Basin. The narrator describes dusty camps by Ashley River and Spring Creek, a wagons train, business with vegetables, and a tense Indian encounter near White Rocks. Father and a blacksmith friend arm for safety as hostile rumors spread, ending with a pledge of possible conflict and a tease of continuation.
