Moore Bound Over to District Court on Assault Charge
James A. Moore 28, a former Loveland Texas man now in Vernal, was bound over to the Fourth District Court after a preliminary hearing in Vernal on charges of criminally assaulting a girl on June 26. Arraignment set for July 18 with trial date to be determined. State witnesses testified Moore drove with seven Vernal youths to Victory Park, then to Ballard, where the girl jumped from the moving car injuring her legs. Authorities say Moore threatened truck drivers with a knife and gun before the alleged assault. He remains jailed in the county jail awaiting bond determination.

A Continental Oil well Footh No 2 near the northwest Rangely field shows a possible major development. The Shinarump formation above Weber ponds produced 76 barrels in the first hours at a 4464 deck choke, with two and a half inch tubing at 6087 feet being cleaned out as crews continue work. The find suggests the field may extend northwest toward Artesia, Siesta, and Vernal, raising speculation about a farther reach from Hangery.

Uintah and Duchesne counties 4 H club members plan the annual encampment at Moon Lake August 8 to 10. About 120 youths from Uintah and nearly 1700 from Duchesne are expected to attend this three day outing. Prizes Announced For Riders In Vernal Rodeo Parades

Geology Class Explores Uintah Basin Formations in Field Study
University of Utah geology students under Dr Bronson Stringham completed a 10 day field trip in Uintah Basin Vernal and surrounding areas. They examined asphalt deposits west of Vernal Whiterocks Rangely and Maani a on the Vernal Manila route studied Uinta Range geology and drilling at several sites. Vernal City will carry Naples water through city mains for a proposed 50000 system to be built this summer or fall. Naples residents will pay Vernal city water rates for use and maintenance as their 13 mile pipeline feeds into the Vernal reservoir near Theodore Johnson corner. The project, financed by a Farm Security Administration loan, includes a 100 member Naples corporation with Ross Merre as president and engineers Alvin Bishop of Logan supervising installation.

Court fines totaling 163 were levied across Vernal City and Uintah county justice courts during the week ending July 4. William D Dixon paid two 10 fines for driving without license or permit.
