Telephone Service Expansion For Vernal 1955 Plan
The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company reports a 1954 expansion cost about 10 million dollars, largest in Utah history, with 7200 more telephones added and 1,260 customers upgraded to higher service. In 1955, outside wiring will exceed 1954 by 40 percent to support growth, as 3200 employees generate about 11 million in wages and 2 million in state taxes. Urban dial service expands to Granger, Kearns, and Hotman Heights, with major projects in Logan, Cache Valley, Brigham City, Ogden, Layton, and Vernal among others, plus a long distance line expansion into the southeast uranium country to be completed by June.

Wool Payments Under New Act Effective April 1
Wool payments to producers for wool on lambs and yearlings under the new act take effect on sales after April 1 1955, per Morris Taylor, Utah State Agricultural Extension livestock marketing specialist. Eligible producers must file a bill of sale listing head count, total live weight, and sale date, with evidence lambs were slaughtered for wool. Payments are at a flat rate per hundredweight of fleece and depend on average wool weight per hundredweight of live animals.
