Pacific Northwest Pipeline contracts go to Fish Northwest Constructors of Houston for the U S segment from the Filter Mountain to the Pacific Northwest territory. Work to begin mid March 1955 with completion of the final line in summer 1956 and partial operation by fall 1955. Consolidated Western Steel near Provo and Kaiser Steel Corp win 225000 tons of pipe, deliveries set along the line route.

Taycees and Kiwanis will compete for the third year in a line of dimes contest this Saturday on Main Street between 2 and p.m. Kiwanis seek to defeat the Jaycees and raise funds for the March of Dimes. The loser pays 25 dollars and will have the victor paraded down Main Street in a wheelbarrow. Kiwanis, led by BA Wilson and Deb Casada, will run on the south side. Alice B Phillips Dies in Texas Funeral Planned
Alice Blanche Phillips, 57, died at Uintah County Hospital Wednesday around 3 p.m. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 4 p.m. in Wellington, Texas, at Kilso Funeral Home with burial in Wellington. Born December 8, 1887 in Kentucky, she was the daughter of Timothy and Della Mae Stephens Coe. She married J Gordon Phillips on September 10, 1920 in Altus, Oklahoma. Survivors include her husband, three children James Coes Phillips of Houston, John B Phillips of Dallas, and Molly Dever of Newcastle, Wyoming, plus four grandchildren.

Four-state Aqualante Drive Begins in Uintah Basin
A drive to enlist Westerners in a crusade to protect western water rights began this week. The Upper Colorado River Grass Roots Committee sponsors the Aqualantes or water vigilantes who pledge to back passage by Congress of the Upper Colorado River Storage Project. The plan aims to tame the Colorado River with storage dams so Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming can use their allocation and supply California, Arizona and Nevada. Citizens can join by pledging support and sending $1 to their state address, Colorado Box 1200 Grand Junction or Wyoming Room 210 State Capitol. Continued on page O.

Special Lion Hunt Planned for Public Near Willow Creek

Snowstorm Adds Six Inches in Uintah Basin Valleys
A midweek snowstorm dumped about six inches in Vernal with seven inches noted by Roosevelt. Moisture was around .05 inch in Vernal, .09 inch last Sunday. Temperatures fell to 18 degrees below zero Tuesday, then rose to one above zero Wednesday as the storm moved in.

Two Men Charged In Army Navy Store Burglary
In Craig Colorado Uintah County authorities charged Charles Wesley Parrish and Rene Riandeaun with burglary of Vertal Army Navy store last Thursday night. Police found four rifles an army jacket 16 boxes of bullets and two pairs of Levi jeans in their car. cash missing plus a rear window entry reported by owner Ken Stringham. The suspects were spotted after Steamboat Springs police helped track their car to a ditch and Craig officers recovered the weapons from the back seat. The 1950 Ford sedan used in the theft was stolen near Ordville California and returned to Vernal authorities. Estimated value of stolen goods about 400 with 300 cash not recovered.

Prisoner Attempts Suicide At Vernal During Burglary Case
A 21 year old prisoner from Grand Rapids Minnesota Ainish County attempted self harm Thursday morning by cutting four deep gashes with a razor blade. He and companion charged with burglary of Verna Army Navy Store last Thursday. The escapee from a North Dakota work farm, Rein deson, was jailed after being found with a shaving blade and tied to the incident. He and Charles Wesley Parrish of Louisville were arrested at Craig and returned to Vernal.

Funeral services are set for Mrs. Kenry L. Green 88 with interment at Maeser Fairview Cemetery. She died Monday evening at 5 o'clock after a brief illness following a birthday observance. Born in Salt Lake Valley she was one of thirteen children of George A. Williams and Emily Maria Crosby Williams. She married Henry B. Green in Salt Lake City on November 25, 1886.
