Timber Resource Survey Finds No Excess in US Forests
A three year national timber appraisal led by Ashley Forest reports total growing timber in the United States and Coastal Alaska at 617 billion cubic feet, with 379 billion in sawtimber. Half of private sawtimber remains, the rest in public lands. The study notes understocked acres and declining timber quality due to harvesting and pests, urging planting and protection.
