River Bill Fate Looms In House Within Week

The Tong awaited Ente of the Upper Colorado River Storage Project bill should be sun by mid next week according to officials in Washington with leadership willing to place it on the schedule as soon as supporters are ready. Upper Basin House members plan to rally support while Republicans consider President Eisenhower’s reelection prospects. Hugh W. Colton traveled to Washington to join efforts with Stringham and Siddgyway to secure votes.

Uintah Basin to Host Jr. Livestock Show on May 31

Uintah Haun announces the Jr. Livestock Show set for May 31 and June 1 in Uintah Basin with Virtus McConkie as manager. The State Shows association met in Salt Lake where officials discussed live stock shows, dwarf cattle, record books, and judging practices. Commissioner Barton was named chair of a study committee to address breed associations and show concerns.

Grass Fires Trigger Two Alarms Near Verna and Ashley Creek

Grass burning on a vacant lot at Four West and Second North sparked a blaze and prompted firefighters to sound an alarm at 3 p.m. They contained sparks near nearby structures. A separate grass fire in Siddoway pasture on Ashley Creek north of Verna was spotted at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. a weed burn escaped control with no injuries reported.

Vernal Considers Subscription TV with 3 Color Channels

Two applications to start a subscription television service in Vernal were heard at the city council meeting. Charles R Henderson of the Tela Vision Company proposed using existing Mountain States Tel and Utah Power and Light facilities. He claimed a color capable system could offer three channels and more later. A Springville pair, Robert Smith and his father, sought licenses for subscription TV and retailing revolving sets, claiming preliminary tech work done and installation within two weeks. Initial setup estimated at 150 dollars with monthly rent 3 to 5 dollars. Council debated feasibility and rules, referring details to a committee for license questions.

The Vernal Express earned three first places and one second at the 58th annual Unity State Press Association awards in Salt Lake City. Provo Funeral Held for Tiny Eric L Rytting

Brief funeral services were held for Eric Terry Rytting, five days old, son of Mr and Mrs Larry Rytting. The service was conducted by Bishop Flake Rogers in Valley Mortuary Provo. Lions Folly Night Draws Big Crowd and Proceeds Benefit Park

About 650 people attended the Lions Folly Night at the high school with a hillbilly quartet and vaudeville acts. Proceeds go to Merkley Park improvements including a dinosaur model for the fieldhouse lawn.
