Man Faces Night Jungle Attack on Treasury Island
In October 1943 Raymond L. Osborne, stationed behind Japanese lines on Treasury Island in the southwest Pacific, faced a surprise Banzai assault. A Kiwi rifle company guarding him could not fire, trapping him in darkness until dawn. Fear gave way to resolve as he stayed alert and prepared to defend his position.

The text classifies trees into two groups: hardwoods with broad leaves and softwoods or conifers with needles or scales. It notes no fixed hardness boundary, as many hardwoods are softer than many softwoods.
