New 20 Acre City Park Looms By High School

Uintah County officials and Little League leaders unveiled a plan for a 20 acre city recreation area north of Uintah High School. The project includes three Little League parks, a pony league, picnic areas, and sport facilities with planned phased development funded by city and county and volunteer labor. A mass meeting Saturday will elect a new Little League board and explain the park plan.

Curriculum study meeting set at Uintah High Friday

The Citizens Curriculum study group covering Areas 1 and 2 will meet at Uintah High School Friday at 1 pm. Arthur C. Wiscombe announced the gathering this week, with final recommendations to be formed and presented to the total citizens group at the final meeting next month.

Dinosaur Monument Area Bid Totals Forecast At $200000

National Park Service plans bids totaling about 200000 for Dinosaur National Monument projects including road work parking areas and a large dam and power plant complex. The notices ar e prepared by the San Francisco design office with bids opening in June and major funds to be allocated to road reconstruction quarry access and visitor center area improvements along the Green River.

Five finalists named for Vernal school superintendent post

The Vernal school board lists five finalists for the superintendent position to replace Max Gibbott who plans to leave at year end for a University of Chicago appointment. Each candidate will be interviewed Friday at 8 pm in the board office, about 30 minutes per interview, focusing on school work background. A. Don Batty, board president, said the process aims to find the best fit for local needs.

State plans early bid for Greendale to Flaming Gorge road

The Utah State Road Commission plans a May bid for a 2.4 mile hard surface road between Greendale Junction Daggett County and the Flaming Gorge dam site as part of a seven mile link to Flaming Gorge. Three Vernal Residents Injured in Tuesday Crash

Three Vernal residents were injured when two cars collidedTuesday at 8:20 pm at 5th South and Vernal Avenue. Jed Luck 65 suffered broken ribs and internal injuries. Ethel Luck 46 had a broken collar bone. Floyd Caldwell 21 sustained severe bruises. The Caldwell car struck a parked 1952 Dodge station wagon. total property damage about 2500. Investigation ongoing with charges pending.

Trussell Keetch, Utah State University wool expert, oversaw three Uintah County sheep herds with a new wool pressing machine and found clean wool quality satisfactory. Average tare wool runs about 60 percent of total clip. tested herds averaged 49 percent. Gilsonite Workers Return as Unemployment Rises

In Vernal and Uintah Basin counties 123 percent of the labor force were out of work for the week ending April 12, as 20 Gilsonite workers returned to American Gilsonite and 75 remained laid off with a Monday return anticipated. Statewide unemployment dropped to 7 percent from the prior week and year, while Vernal and mining-reliant communities bore heavy job losses amid the recession.
