Utah and Colorado Cowboys Triumph at TCRA Rodeo
After a two day event at Uintah County Fairgrounds in Vernal the Tri-Corners Rodeo Association held its season opener. Kerry Young of Spanish Fork won saddle bronc while Brent Shirtliff and teammates took team roping top honors. Vernal competitors claimed most prize spots across bull riding steer wrestling calf roping and bareback events.

Uintah Utes defeated Carbon Dinos in a dual meet at Price 87 1077. Finley Horrocks won the 100 and 220 yard dashes and the high jump scoring 10.5 seconds and 6 ft 2 in. Dennis Bia led in the 2 mile with 11 17. Floyd Morton Kevin Millecam Lance Morton and Horrocks led the 440 yard relay to 46.5. Jay Dee Harris won the long jump 19 ft 7 in. Gary Martinsen won the pole vault at 2 ft. The medley relay team of Rick Birch Jay Dee Harris Mark Van Wagoner and John Burns posted 3 58.

Vernal Junior High schedules its first track meet of 1977 at Uintah High School with Vernal facing Roosevelt and West at 2 p.m. April 26. Seventh and eighth graders compete Green River in Wyoming, while ninth graders participate at Nangely Invitational on April 2. Basin Day meet is set for May 6 and Vernal tracksters enter the UYU Invitational on May 13.

The Mountain State Barrel Racing Association held its first approved rodeo at Tri-Corners with open and novice divisions each day. Results showed Robette Warren winning Saturday open, Tracy Durfee excelling in goat tying, and Sunday open winner Bobette Warren with Becky Young taking novice honors. Championship standings list Barker and Warren atop Open, with Durfee high in novice. A fabrication jackpot at Vernal was noted with year end points affected.
