Union Township moves ahead with park land purchase plan

Trustees approve federal matching funds for a 100 acre Barrett Road park site with township share from a 0.5 mill levy and 23 acre donation. A survey and cost estimates are to be obtained while police manpower gaps prompt calls for a levy and auxiliary volunteers to support certified officers.

Monroe council approves sewer rate increase and local actions

Monroe Council passed an emergency ordinance raising sewer charges to 105 percent of water rates per quarter with a 10 percent discount if paid by the 10th. A garbage rate rise to 7.50 per quarter was proposed. Road projects and a speed limit change were approved. Monroe also joins the bicentennial program.

Square Dance Event at Liberty School Saturday Night

The Liberty Historical Society hosts an old fashioned square dance on Saturday Sept 13 at 8 pm with Howard Bacon as caller. Proceeds support Hughes School restoration. admission is 1.25 dollars and includes refreshments. If rain, event moves to Liberty School indoors.
