UHS runners win a cross country meet in Ukiah scoring 15 points to Fort Bragg's 25. Alvin Hautala of Fort Bragg led with an 8 47 mile and one-eighth time. Ukiah's Moton, McCool, and Wise placed second to fourth with a large field following.

The board of supervisors will seek bids for a garbage collection franchise in the unincorporated Ukiah Valley and all of Redwood Valley. Maintenance of the Calpella dump use would be required. Ukiah High School 4 and B squads begin the 1955-56 basketball season Friday night at Chessall Gym against Healdsburg High. Coach Fred Sten starts his first Ukiah season with a solid nucleus. Varsity veterans Jim Brown Tom Whitaker Carl Middleton Pete Kelly Richard Miller and Ted Mayo return. B team led by Coach Bill Tully. First game 7 30 p m. Saturday the teams travel to Fortuna to face the Fortuna High Huskies with a 7 30 p m start.

Ukiah by-pass slated as part of a state plan to make Highway 101 a freeway from San Francisco to the Oregon border. District engineer Alan Hart says state highway commission approval in 2 3 months could start work in 1958 or 1959 with a three year completion.
