Lawrenc e A. Wallen and Darlene I. Iriesen file a $100,000 lawsuit in superior court over the December 2, 1954 crash five miles north of Willits. Plaintiff s allege Mervyn F. Tripp negligent in operating his truck and trailer, causing Zoie Wallen's death as she followed the unmoved load into a left turn into the August Hulinger mill.
Mendocino county seeks volunteers to process TB Christmas Seal returns. Volunteers will alphabetize mail, post funds, and close undeliverable letters in Ukiah at the county Tuberculosis association office. Two hours daily from nursery school mothers and other helpers are already lending aid. Call HD 2-2359 to schedule a volunteering slot.
Seven persons correctly named last week’s Mystery Farm as the Cyril Goudge farm in Redno Valley. Identifications for Wickiah theatre tickets included John Nelson Don Jameson and Mrs Ann Ekenberg Rt 1 Box 428 Redwood Valley Nancy Smith 906 N Oak street and Mrs R C Clyma Ukiah. Others identifying the farm were Mrs Elbert Lane Calpella and Mrs Kenneth Foster Ukiah.
Wayne and Billy Jack Tillery of Boonville were treated at Thendocho County Hospital for severe facial burns after a gas stove exploded. Fumes from an unlit burner ignited when Wayne Tillery lit a cigarette. Both men are reported recovering satisfactorily.
County Clerk W. J. im Broaddus warns residents that today is the last day to register to vote in the Coyote Valley dam bond election on January 24. Voters must have resided in the county at least 90 days and within the state one year.
Miss Daisy D Edminster of Talmage died November 22 at her home and left her entire estate to the First Church of Christ Scientist Boston Mass valued at about $8000. The will filed for probate specifies the legacy be used for elderly scientists with a fallback to Lillian Collins of San Francisco if sections 41 and 43 of California probate code invalidate any portion.
District Judge Fred Gos, at the request of District Attorney Maria Orchard, dismissed molesting charges against Don Gregg of Ukiah. Orchard cited altered testimony by two 13 year old complainants and said dismissal was in the interests of justice. The ruling followed a continued preliminary hearing due to possible testimony changes.
Mendocino county planning commission backed a by pass plan A for the Ukiah freeway after a Chamber of Commerce and public polls. Chamber members favored by 188 to 57, while the city paper poll showed 78 to 26 in favor. Ballots to 400 members yielded 109 yes and 31 no. A second hearing is expected in January or February.
Federal financing could nearly double state funding for the Highway 101 improvement from San Francisco to Crescent City. Alan Hart, district engineer, predicted completion in 12 years with federal aid, outlining by passes at Petaluma and Cotati to Santa Rosa, plus by passes in Cloverdale and Ukiah areas. The Ukiah Rotary event featured a film on the project and a discussion of cooperation and financing among regional authorities.
The estate of Frank Persico of Willits who died June 15 1955 is valued at 47500 in an inventory on file in the superior court. The estate mainly comprises real estate in Willits and savings accounts.
Bernard R. Caldwell, California Highway Patrol commissioner, urges drivers and pedestrians to observe three safety rules to achieve an accident free 8-D Day. He notes rural deaths exceed urban ones and calls for nationwide effort with Gov. Knight, spanning ten days before and after December 1.
Ukiah will cover parking meters with cellophane bags from December 1 to 24 to mark free parking for shoppers. Bags will read City of Ukiah Not to be Opened Until Christmas. Police Chief George Smith proposed the plan which the council approved with a single suggestion to mark hours to curb abuse.
The board authorized preliminary engineering and an aerial survey for a 2.5 mile coast road realignment from Hardy Creek to DeHaven. The project targets elevation of drainage, grading, and paving with funds from county state and federal sources and aims to save time and costs.

A Willits mother and her five year old son traveled from San Francisco after specialists warned he may never reach normal growth. Doctors called the affected children “the little people” and advised checkups every two months while sending medicine to the local physician. The community raised 126 dollars to fund the trips, and the family hopes for joy as they seek any future growth and possible roles in entertainment.
A $100000 personal injury suit filed over injuries to Mrs. Radlew on August 3 1951 at Bell Glenn resort near Leggett is slated for trial Monday before Superior Judge Hale McCowen. Plaintiffs Bob Mary 4 Radioff and Andy Radloff of San Francisco seek 75000 general damages and 25000 for loss of companionship.
Ukiah residents urged to use safeguards with gas installations. City code requires licensed mechanics for gas piping and flues, permits for all work, and rigid tests to guard against leaks.
A Santa Rosa meeting Friday will decide if the Robbins suit to block Sonoma county’s 5.65 million Co y o te Valley dam bonds is appealed or dropped. Judge Jacoby dismissed the suit last Monday. an appeal would delay bond sale and dam work. The Bank of America had the low bid and delivery must occur within 45 days. Army engineers will start only after local funds are available.
Open house at 2 p m and dedication at 2 30 p m mark the opening of Calpella Elementary School. County officials PTA members and students will participate with refreshments served by the PTA. John Oakes will speak on Mendocino education growth and the Native Daughters of the Golden West will present a California flag. Mrs Elbert Lane will recount Calpella school history and Robert Peterson PTA president will discuss the building project.
Ukiah area youths Carl W. Wright of Ukiah and Donald Paul Beard of Redwood Valley earned appointments to the Naval academy and the Air Force academy respectively. Rep. Hubert B. Scudder announced the selection, with Wright named fifth alternate to the Naval academy. Both will join the class of 1956.
Ukiah Chief of Police issued a Jane Doe warrant for Norma Latimer 311 Cuardo Ave Millbrae in connection with the alleged kidnaping of I D Smith last Monday night. Latimer was identified by Ukiah General Hospital attendants and CHP Officer Jack Johnson after being found injured off South Highway 101. Healdsburg police report a bartender Clain Becker picked up a woman after the incident and drove her to a San Francisco address, potentially guiding investigators to the suspect's home.
City reports two car thefts near Ukiah High and Frank Zeek Elementary School leaving two cameras a checkbook and sunglasses missing. John William Moore of Willits arrested after driving stolen car from Vevada’s lot toward Boonville road then over a bank. Two 15 year olds from Ukiah report stolen car in Petaluma and await juvie action. Meridith Duncan injured by Ben Brown’s car while crossing State Street.
Bids on 792.46 acres of Indian land in Mendocino County were opened by the Sacramento office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The 18 parcels sold for $27,336.83 as part of a 2,520.21 acre sale totaling $332,267.07. Deeds or patents in fee will be issued to purchasers within months and lands placed on tax rolls.
