Pack Lovitt Named St. Mary's Hospital Leaders

Arthur N. Pack is named chairman of St. Mary's Hospital Advisory Board succeeding D. M. Lovitt who becomes chairman of the Second Century Committee. Pack aims to raise public support for a $2.5 million first phase adding a 79 bed wing and a mental health center with a connecting service building.

County plans need two more regional parks by 1970

Pima County Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed a regional parks plan projecting Tucson area growth to 1.1 million by 2000 and a need for 15 regional parks. The plan by Joseph Lusteck and Richard Wessman calls for two new sites by 1970 near N 1st Ave Rillito River and near the Sanitary District No 1 land, plus a third site by 1975 on the East Side.

Saigon Police Raid Saigon Black Market Stalls

In Saigon three hundred police raided downtown stalls selling American PX goods near the U S Embassy. They seized cigarettes canned foods liquor and clothing while a city official noted vendors had warning to unload. The raid is the first this year and prices in the stalls run three to five times PX rates.

Burglars Steal Five TV Sets From Electronics Co

Burglars pried open the front door of Northeast Electronics Co at 2716 E Fort Lowell Road and carried off five television sets valued around 1500 dollars. Police report two color and three black and white sets stolen.

Canal Pacts Face Fight In Congress

Washington reports stiff opposition in Congress to Johnson’s planned treaties with Panama over the Canal Zone and a new sea level canal. Negotiators agreed on control, defense, neutrality, and joint administration, with details pending. Rep. Daniel Flood announced the concluded treaty amid House debate.

Good Neighbor Council Unit Here Gets Charter

The Tucson chapter of the International Good Neighbor Council, first in Arizona and the region, received its charter. Robert Salvatierra Jr. announced the charter from Glenn E. Garrett, IGNC executive director, who described the nonprofit group as nonpolitical and dedicated to inter American goodwill through language education, bilingual signage, youth activities, and cultural exchanges.

Lurleen Wallace Faces Possible Surgery in Houston

Governor Lurleen B. Wallace disclosed a malignancy after routine tests and said she may undergo surgery at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston next week. Lt. Gov. Albert Brewer would act if she remains out of state beyond 20 days. Mrs. Wallace has previously sought treatment for cancer and will maintain duties during travel.

Funeral services for Mrs Helene Adams in Mesa

Mrs Helene Adams 64 died yesterday at Mesa Lutheran Hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p m tomorrow at Desert View Chapel Mesa with burial at Intermountain View Memorial Gardens. She is survived by her husband Charles two sisters a daughter a son two grandchildren and her mother.

Land seizures target Pima and Yuma by military services

Federal condemnation suits filed by the Army and Air Force seek 11 500 acres in Pima and Yuma counties. The Air Force requests 9 679 acres mainly private mining claims along the aerial gunnery range from Gila Bend and Ajo toward Yuma. The Army seeks 1 941 acres at the Yuma Test Station from Mr and Mrs H D Mollohan in Yuma County.
