Republicans urge broader public affairs participation

A. Sarg Magyar, new chairman of the Republican City Central Committee, urged greater citizen involvement in government. Speaking to the Pima County Republican Club at the Santa Rita Hotel, he cited California using 200 top citizens to aid projects, with some volunteers deducting expenses from income taxes. He urged Republicans not to imitate Democrats on social reforms, preferring private agencies for most programs.

Zuber Joins Merrill Lynch Staff In Tucson

Arthur J. Zuber, longtime Tucson securities dealer formerly with Woodward & Zuber, joins Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner Smith local staff. Joseph Douglas, manager, says Zuber will specialize in sales of corporate and municipal bonds and has worked in Tucson since 1945 with several brokerage houses.

Hospital Drug Sales Curbed In Maricopa County

The Maricopa County Hospital pharmacy was ordered to stop selling drugs to employees pending an opinion from the county attorney. County Manager Joseph C Herrick asked legal counsel Jane Greer to obtain the ruling. Earlier reports said the pharmacy sold employer prescriptions at cost plus ten percent, with interns and resident doctors receiving free drugs replaced by drug companies. Herrick noted only two or three employee prescriptions were filled daily.

Miss Kitty to Seek Divorce in Arizona Court

Amanda Blake known as Miss Kitty from Gun Smoke was set to appear in Mari copa County Superior Court with her husband Jayson Day Jr. for divorce. The couple wed in Santa Monica on August 15 1964 and Day has two children from a prior marriage.

Sundt Given D-M Contract For Hospital Additions

Sundt Construction Co. of Tucson wins a 1 387 450 dollar contract from the U S Corps of Engineers to expand Davis Monthan Air Force Base hospital facilities. The project covers dental clinic maternity department general hospital space for 20 beds power generation building a storage structure and remodeling. Work should start in about two weeks with completion in roughly seven months.

Phoenix approves 1967-68 city budget of 68 million

Phoenix City Council adopted a municipal budget totaling 68,195,451 dollars for the 1967-68 fiscal year beginning Saturday. The action sets funding levels for city departments and services in the coming year.
