City Hall cuts rival post in Cohoes turmoil

The Cohoes Board of Estimate and Apportionment abolished the director of management role amid controversy. Mayor Ronald Canestrari said Kathy Ryan will run a rummage sale at United Day on Oct 14 and planned a roast beef election dinner. Michael Burke leads Neighborhood Improvement and will push a Risk Management Safety Program while questions linger over new federal projects coordinator duties.

Court Notes Cohoes Police Court Guilty Pleas Oct. 14

Cohoes judge Walter Burke presided as Donald Cusick 49 faced assault and endangerment charges, pleading guilty to second degree endangerment and third degree assault with sentencing set for Oct. 14. Also charged were Rollin Demers 17 for driving while intoxicated pleading to driving while impaired and Marlene Diotte 34 for resisting arrest pleading guilty, with Diotte’s sentencing on Oct. 14. Peter Hanczaryk 32 pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and was turned over to a related program.

Construction boom hits Troy area in September 1967

Ten years ago the Troy area saw major building activity. Projects included the Holiday Inn on Sixth Avenue near Fulton and Broadway, a $2.5 million Cluett building for Sanford Cluett’s Sanforized lab and accounting division, and the $3.5 million RPI Student Union set for dedication with Senator Hatfield scheduled to speak.

Cohoes Library Adds New York Times Large Print Weekly

The Cohoes Public Library now subscribes to the New York Times Large Print Weekly to aid visually handicapped readers. The edition includes news articles features reviews art critiques columns and a crossword puzzle in 12 point type for easier reading.
