Albany Diocese forms ad hoc committee on divorced Catholics

Shenendehowa Library to Start Fall Story Hour for Pre-Schoolers

The Shenendehowa Free Library will begin its fall pre-school Story Hour on Tuesday October 5 running eight weeks through November 2. Registration opens Monday at 10 a.m. by telephone or in person at the Cemetery Road library. Candidates must be pre-school and turn three before April 1. Sessions occur Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. and Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. with volunteer readers and staff support.

County Receives Road Grant for Traffic Counter Study

Saratoga County secured a federal highway grant of 1 800 to buy two traffic counters for measuring traffic on 360 miles of highways. The study will run in early fall spring and summer to guide repairs and repaving with total project cost 3 773 and county share of 1 973.

Colonie Police Host Three Hour Bike Safety Contest

The Colonie Police Department runs a three hour bike safety competition at the parking lot behind 80 Wolf Road on Saturday starting at noon. New York Instant Lottery Hits Record Sales in First Week

In its first week, New York State Lottery sold at least 18.9 million one dollar tickets, more than double the prior weekly record. Lottery director John Quinn calls the response overwhelming as vendors rush to stock more tickets and deposits flow to banks. Police report shows 53 arrests in August for Schuylerville

Schuylerville Village Police Chief Al Tripoli reported 53 arrests in August to the Village Board. Vehicle and traffic arrests included 16 speeding and other violations. Penal Law arrests included petit larceny and disorderly conduct. Eight auto accidents and 23 total complaints were recorded.

Mechanicville native Jerome B. Nolan recently earned Summa Cum Laude at Buffalo State University and was awarded a fellowship for advanced study in linguistics. He was inducted into Buffalo State's Phi Beta Kappa chapter and invited to join a research group in France next summer. Nolan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Nolan, is a 1972 Mechanicville High School graduate and Rotary Exchange Student who studied in Borås Sweden and Paris.

Explosion at GAF plant in Rensselaer injures workers

An explosion at the GAF Corporation hair dryer section in Building 93 at 33 Riverside Ave a Rensselaer plant sent over a dozen employees and firefighters to Albany hospitals for chemical exposure and smoke inhalation. One supervisor, Ronald McCormick, 47, was burned. No immediate public health hazard was found.
