Ellis J. Judd Staley III won the Republican 04th Assembly District primary by about a four to one margin over Joseph A. Reid with 277 votes to 67. Albany board reports incomplete City of Albany districts. several districts failed to notify results. Staley, Albany City Republican endorsed, will face Democrat Richard J. Conners in November.

Albany School One Sold to City for Five Thousand

Two Die In Head On Crash In Lake Luzerne

Two people were killed in a head on collision on Call Street Lake Luzerne early today. Adrian Furlo 34 of Palmer Avenue and Frederick Flewelling 55 of 266A Mosher Road Corinth died at the scene. Both were pronounced dead by Warren County Coroner Clinton Lawrence.

Amsterdam recalls four grated cheeses over mislabeled pecorino

The FDA reports a voluntary recall by Imported Italian Food Products of Amsterdam for four grated Pecorino Romano cheeses. The labels claim Italian style or pecorino, but the product contained cows milk and no imported or Italian cheese, prompting relabeling.

Albany Fire Destroys Top Floor at 99 West Street

Flames swept the top floor of a vacant two story building at 99 West St in Albany around 5 am. The fire’s cause is not known. Residents of first floor units were evacuated and homes at 97 95 and 93 West St suffered smoke and water damage.

Historical Society of Esquatak meets Friday at Schodack Town Hall

Young fundraisers collect for muscular dystrophy drive

Two Schuylerville youths David Blake and Corky Colvin gathered donations for the muscular dystrophy telethon. They raised 68 dollars and 55 cents and delivered the money in person to WRGB in Schenectady.

Man pleads guilty in fatal high speed chase case

James Harbeck of 1541 Second Street Rensselaer pleaded guilty in Rensselaer County Court to one count of first degree reckless endangerment linked to a Sept 20 1975 chase through Rensselaer and East Greenbush that killed a 12 year old girl Marie Barner. He faces seven years at sentencing Oct 7. The second charge and an assault count were dismissed. Deputy Richard Simm drove the patrol car and was cleared. Judge Don Cholakis presided.

McCloskey Wins Clifton Park GOP Supervisor Primary

Incumbent Charles McCloskey defeated councilman Donald McQuay by about two to one for the Republican supervisor nomination in Clifton Park. McCloskey, 61, appointed last year, will face Democrat Dean Arden in November as part of a special election to fill two unexpired terms. McQuay, who runs Del Mar Photographic Studios, argued for more open government while criticizing McCloskey’s handling of town board meetings.

Petition Urges Burial of Mrs Murphy in Salem Cemetery

A 500 name petition will be presented to the Salem Town Board urging permission to bury Mrs Helen Murphy in Binninger Cemetery despite a May 12 rule restricting burials there to deed owners. Attorney Everett Updike says residents support moving the policy and the board meets at 7 30 p m in the Town Shed to consider the request.
