Former Jail Officer Dies At Cohoes
George T. Vallee 80, former deputy sheriff of Rensselaer County, died yesterday at his son’s Cohoes residence. A lifelong resident, he earlier lived at 241 Second Street Troy and worked as a shipper for Fitzgerald Bros. Brewing Co. He retired years ago and moved to Cohoes with son Joseph E. Vallee. Survived by son and two grandsons Raymond J. Vallee. Funeral Monday at 9 am from John E Clinton Funeral Home and 9:30 am at St. Jean Baptiste Church with burial in St. Jean's Cemetery.

Albany Democrats of the Third Judicial District named Supreme Court Justice Herbert D Hamm of North Greenbush as their candidate for election this year to a 14 year term on the high court bench as successor to the late Justice William H Murray. Hamm, a Republican, will be nominated by the GOP district convention this afternoon in Albany. Charles J Duncan former Albany city court justice placed Hamm's name in nomination. The convention adopted a resolution praising non partisan nomination for justice of the Supreme Court and its good government aims.

Col George W. Kavanaugh, longtime Waterford area figure and retired textile manufacturer, died Thursday night at his Spring Lake New Jersey summer home at age 90. He was the last surviving charter member of the Troy Lodge of Elks and oldest member of Cohoes Lodge F and AM. Born in Waterford, he entered the textile business in Cohoes in 1884 and served in the New York State Legislature in 1897 and 1898. He later lived in New York City and had extensive manufacturing holdings in the South, also owning the Kavanaugh Knitting Mills in Waterford and a brokerage on Mohawk Street Cohoes. He was a director of Manufacturers National Bank and frequented Albany events with Edward T. McDonald. He belonged to several clubs in New York City. He is survived by his widow Mrs Marie Biller Kavanaugh and two daughters Mrs Leonora Warner of New York and Mrs Virginia Smith of California, and three grandchildren.
