Sand Lake results show Carl Wicks over Theodore Ford 235 to 93 for justice second district. Albert Flaxmeyer beat Richard Hoffay 238 to 173 for superintendent of highways. Flaxmeyer to succeed Walter Werger. Other nominees listed. Chair Barry Werger. clerks Herold Harriman Mrs Garner Roney. tellers Mrs Lawrence Hoffman Mrs Lehman Swig and Raymond Davey.
Two Troy defense lawyers who withdrew as privately employed counsel for Matthew L. Armer, charged with killing a state trooper, were reassigned by the court to defend Armer at public expense. The court set 1500 dollars as the maximum fee for the two lawyers, with expenses to be added after trial.

The State Department of Correction released August crime figures showing that nearly one in four charged with major offenses was under 22. Of 2,710 arrested, 124.9 percent were under 21, a 3 percent rise over the first seven months of 1951 and 10 percent above August 1951. The rise was chiefly among felonious assault cases, totaling 530 versus a roughly 350 per month average since 1947.
Joan Vollmer Burroughs, 27, died in Exuta City hospital from a pistol wound to the forehead after a claimed "William Tell" stunt by her husband William S Burroughs. He said the gun misfired while aiming at a glass on her head. police note earlier versions varied. Burroughs denies intent and says he saved his wife. The couple lived near Pharr Texas. Burroughs is a General Foods chemist.

Calvin Barker a Fort Edward resident aged 51 was fined 15 by Justice Francis Robinson after State Police arrested him for illegal possession of explosives. The case arose from an injury to a youth Marvin Hosg Fort Edward who was burned when a dynamite cap exploded. Investigators found boys played with explosives taken from Barker's property. Barker said he bought the dynamite years ago for construction work.
LaSalle Institute establishes a memorial scholarship honoring Joseph Desler, a LaSalle junior who drowned last June at White Beach Ballston Lake. Rev Edward Z Reilly will select recipients from students who struggle to pay tuition, with the award renewed every four years unless the holder leaves early. Desler, son of Mr and Mrs Joseph F Desler, was a Record carrier for four years and swam with classmates when he disappeared and was found two days later.
