Steel Firms OK Strike Compromise
PITTSBURGH AP The nation s steel hauling truck firms accepted a compromise plan to end the violent truckers strike. Strike leader William Kusley said he opposes it and expects drivers to reject it, noting many states and drivers are unhappy. Carriers in Chicago and Pittsburgh approved a modified plan calling for four hours awaiting loading at mills before pay, with drivers to receive at least ten dollars an hour. Kusley added leaders will decide on a vote after official word from the trucking companies.
