The Troy Boys Club board approved letting girls age 7 to 21 join on a common membership basis after a four year experimental period. About 200 girls had participated on a limited basis, with programs including arts crafts swimming and gym available weekdays after school and on Saturdays.

Leonard Yaffe of Long Meadow Mass is chosen as executive director of Vanderheyden Hall in Troy succeeding Gabriel Viada. He will assume Monday after directing juvenile services in Springfield and holds a masters in social work with prior roles in child welfare and residential programs. Vanderheyden Hall operates a residential program and day treatment for emotionally disturbed youths.
The United Way campaign reports $101 212 raised toward a $750 000 target in its second week. Chairman Charles C Freihofer II says the drive is on schedule and many large empire groups are just starting their campaigns.
Troy’s Gasholder House at Jefferson Street and Fifth Avenue, historic since 1873, appears on the covers of two recent publications. Sage Brothers Painting Co. owns the building since 1969 and uses it for storage and restoration work. A high speed chase on Troy's East Side culminated at 10 13 a m when a car crashed into a power pole injuring 16 year old Troy boy Brian Theilemann who was later charged with four counts of passing a red light unlicensed driving and speeding The chase began after a vehicle was stopped for going wrong way on a one way road and the driver fled telling officers he was unlicensed Theilemann listed in good condition at St Marys Hospital
Hudson Valley Community College offers a four session mini course on old house restoration starting Oct 18 from 7 30 to 9 30 p m with a per session fee. Registration Day is Saturday 1 to 9 p m.
