Accident in Malta Claims Saratoga Man Life

A Milton Malta one car crash on Sherman Road killed George E. Haskell Jr. 21 of Saratoga Springs and left three teens hospitalized. Gloria Fitzgerald 17 suffered a fractured skull and was critical. Bill Cassell 16 and Kelly Callahan 18 remained in serious condition with serious injuries.

Mechaniceville Youth Awaits Court Action

A 19 year old Mechanicville resident, Columbus LaBurdi of RD 1, is in Saratoga County jail awaiting arraignment on charges of fourth degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest after he allegedly twisted a patrol car radio antenna and assaulted troopers W J Johnson and H J Abeel on Route 9 in Malta. He was held on $500 bail.

Protruding water main damages car in Mechanicville

A protruding water main left unguarded during street repaving damaged the underside of a vehicle in Mechanicville. Wanda F. Johnson drove west on Park Avenue at 7 30 p m when the car struck the exposed main, stopping abruptly. No injuries were reported to Johnson or two passengers. Fitzgerald Brothers Construction Co Inc of Watervliet handles the project.

Victory Mills seeks public works funds for water plant

Victory Mills village board voted to apply immediately for Public Works Economic Development Fund Act money to renovate the water plant at an estimated cost of 800 to 750 dollars. Engineers Morrell and Vrooman of Gloversville will oversee the project. The meeting also covered bike noise complaints on Gates Avenue and Herkimer Street with a plan to alert the State Police, approved new fire company members Richard L. Lloyd Fred D. Hunt Charles D. Wood Sr and Thomas J. Bruce, and scheduled drain pipe repairs on Mrs. Irving Brownell’s driveway. A Halloween curfew for 17 and under was set for Oct 30 10 p.m. and Oct 31 9 p.m pending emergencies. Street light requests were granted on Jay Street Herkimer Street and Monument Drive.
