The Cohoes Girls Softball League plans its largest season with three divisions for ages eight to eighteen. Registration at the Community Center runs February 3 4, opening day April 30, and a New York State Amateur Softball Association Junior Girls Tournament on July 8 9.
Barbara LaPlante, 17, a Cohoes High School senior, was selected to perform with the Northeastern New York Youth Orchestra. She has won four music awards and aims to teach music while performing part time. Barbara has studied violin five years at Albany Arts Center and rehearses weekly at Union College's performing arts center. She lives with her parents at 102 Congress St. in Cohoes.
Mechanicville officials report the city paving program finished with Hulin Penrose Fitchburg Gilbert and Stillwater Streets rebuilt. Engineer Hoffman notes remaining issues on Hulin and Stillwater to be addressed in spring while water runoff on Stillwater Avenue is investigated due to underground springs on the hill.
Mechanicville approves its second grant up to 4000 dollars for a Saratoga Avenue resident to hire a contractor to install a central heating system replace a wood stove add insulation and plumbing. Four or five more grants expected this year with 20 applications for next year.
John Lenihan of the Urban Renewal Agency says the playground project is delayed by poor weather and only 0 percent complete. Tennis courts have been paved, the parking lot will be paved this week, latex coating to be applied in spring, restroom and storage building complete with heaters and utilities installed, and recreation area set to open next spring. Skating and other uses start this fall.
D A Collins will receive partial payment for the paving tractor work and full settlement will be delayed until the project is completed to Hoffman’s satisfaction.
MECHAMNICVILLE St Luke's Episcopal Church will host a public card party on December 2 at 7 30 p m. Proceeds support church activities and community outreach.

Mechanicville officials discuss Saratoga County Sewer District job openings, noting 24 county positions with limited local hires and provisional appointments pending exams.
