A Teamster council report by Nicholas Kisburg says 31 states remain in recession and eight have lost more than 100,000 private sector jobs in the past two years. New York shows the steepest fall with 314,000 nonfarm private payroll losses from Sept 1974 to Sept this year, followed by Florida 204,700 New Jersey 162,900 and Michigan 150,600.
Shenendehowa voters on December 8 will decide if the high school should be expanded with two industrial arts and two art classrooms and minor renovations possibly funded by a $125,000 federal grant. If approved without federal funds the project costs about $97,000 to taxpayers, with $12 per year per taxpayer over two years. The district also asks approval to sell the old Jonesville School for at least $10,000.
Clifton Park NY Shenendehowa PTSA with about 2000 members received the National Congress of Parents and Teachers Award for outstanding PTSA in New York State. A plaque for past president Helene Greenwood was presented at the National PTA Convention in Kentucky and is displayed at Okie Elementary.
Federal inspectors charged General Electric Co with 13 job safety violations at a 22 acre turbine plant in Schenectady. The proposed fine is $11 670. The probe found missing guard rails unsafe cutting chips and insecure loads on a sling. About 3000 workers are employed at the facility, GE's largest Schenectady plant.
4-H Teen Ambassador will present a sewing project at St. Joseph's School in Rensselaer at 7 30 p.m. The session titled Beginning Sewing covers basic stitching and fabric basics for local youth.
New York State Electric & Gas Corp serving 115000 western New York customers asks the Public Service Commission for a $4.60 monthly average rate rise. The request adds 960 million yearly for electric and 7.7 million for gas, reflecting higher labor material and construction costs.
