Seymour R. Brooks, 28, was sentenced in Rensselaer County Court to a 10 year maximum for second degree kidnapping and first degree sexual abuse in a case involving a 20 year old Town of Hoosick woman. He interrupted a hearing to plead guilty while facing a Vermont rape charge. The victim testified that Brooks tied a rope around her neck, stole money, and forced sexual intercourse at knifepoint during a drive from Route 22 to Pow nal Vermont.

A Rensselaer resident and two Albany men were arrested in separate incidents. John C. Kohler of 1112 Broadway faced third degree burglary charges after a Wednesday arrest on an Albany City Court warrant. Gregory Kornegay of 44 Elm Street and Benjamin L. Carrington of 408 Madison Avenue were arrested Tuesday afternoon on burglary criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree and possession of stolen property charges. All were held in $1,000 bail pending court appearances.

Drugstore burglary thwarted by alarm in East Greenbush
A drugstore burglary was stopped early Wednesday when a burglar alarm at Hall's drugstore sounded after intruders used a sledge hammer to break a rear wall. Police units from East Greenbush and the State Police arrived, the burglars fled without stealing, and the investigation continues. Officer Richard Kemner filed the report.
