Volunteer Fireman School Starts Today in Rensselaer
The volunteer fireman training begins at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall with Francis H. Reiley as instructor and Fire Chief William W. Braman present for the opening. The seven week program runs Monday evenings with outdoor demonstrations and is sponsored by the Rensselaer Fire Department Foremen's Association. An all day rescue training session by the State Civil Defense Rescue Department will be announced later at City Hall.

Pumper Delivery Due Today at City Fire Station
Mayor John H. Warden announced the arrival today of a $30,000 diesel American La France fire pumper, 1,000 gallons, to be stationed at Pumper 2 on Broadway and John Street. The current pumper will be kept in reserve, with a former unit moved to Willow and Lawrence Streets. An 85-foot aerial ladder truck is expected mid January. officials toured the Elmira plant where both were being prepared. City Clerk Beaudin, City Treasurer Dwyer, Chief Braman and others will be present at the handover.

Mayor Nearly Hanged In Celebration in Brawley
In Imperial Valley's Wild West Celebration the mayor, Pat Williams, acted as the mock hanging victim. A bystander noticed the rope was too long and he swapped an arm for his neck, then slipped from the gallows as the door released.
