Religion scholars seek learning from atheists

A diverse panel of Jewish, Christian, Catholic, and Islamic scholars in New York discusses interfaith dialogue with atheists to learn from nonbelievers. The John LaFarge Institute plans a frank, candor filled exchange as part of a broader push to address rising secularism, especially on campuses.

Ivan Davis Featured In Concert At Troy Music Hall

Pianist Ivan Davis, a Texas native and Fulbright scholar, headlines a 8:30 p.m. recital in Music Hall, first of four Troy Chromatics concerts. He has won major Liszt and Busoni competitions, studied in Rome, and performed with U.S. orchestras and European festivals. Program includes Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Liszt works.

Messiah Scheduled By Albany Church

Messiah Part One to be heard at St. Peters Albany at 8 p m Tuesday with Jane Bucci featured soprano and soloists Carl Randles mezzo Douglas Monk tenor Alan Rubenstein bass organist Geraldine Wells and choir and orchestra directed by John M Hodgins The first 19 sections of the three part work will be performed Reduced admission for students available.

College Group To Conduct Service At Firs Baptist Church

The annual services sponsored by the college group of Firs Baptist Church will be held at 10 30 a m Sunday in the church. Natalie Hatton of Russell Sage College and Anthony B Wight of RPI will preach. Andrea Donkin of Skidmore College will give the children's story. Following the service will be a coffee hour. Cohostesses are Mrs George B Reynolds and Mrs George W Singiser. Music will be provided by the church choir.

Vocal Society Sets 375th Concert at Music Hall

The Troy Vocal Society opens its 93rd season with a 375th consecutive concert at Music Hall on Thursday. Lois Ann Busch will be guest pianist, with Walter Marland conducting and Stanley C. Muraski as accompanist. The program includes Bach, Handel, Wagner, Chopin, Prokofief, Rachmaninoff, and traditional pieces among others.

Alplaus Church Plans Conversation and Meetings

The Alplaus Methodist Church schedules a second membership conversation Monday at 7 p.m. for youths in grades 7-12. A Tuesday 10 a.m. meeting seeks volunteers for the Christmas bazaar, set for December 1 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and December 2 from 1 to 8 p.m. The Official Board meets Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. and WSCS hosts a guest night Thursday with area WSCS groups invited. Ferry Street Tunnel Work Advances

Rubbing and finishing work on the Ferry Street Arterial Tunnel walls continues as a state DPW project engineer Edgar Labrum notes completion of a wrought iron fence around the campus area near First and Second Streets. Pipe assemblies with sewer pumps inside the tunnel are delayed as ordered pipes have not yet arrived, with weather influencing the opening date. Trojan Hardware Co sublets the work. pipe arrival is expected within 10 days and connection to pumps in about 24 hours once received.
