October Hoosick Falls police report shows 57 arrests

In October Hoosick Falls Police logged 57 arrests, led by 10 for speeding and seven for driving while intoxicated or unregistered vehicles. Four were unlicensed operators, with three each for open container and no insurance. Police assisted other agencies six times and cruisers covered 2,969 miles while promoting bicycle safety to scout troops.

The Supreme Court unanimously set aside a federal ruling that Griffin Inc. of Arlington Vermont need not pay New York sales tax. It sent the suit back to federal court to dismiss, saying New York provides a proper forum for Griffin’s tax claims and speedy relief.

Hoosick woman pleads to negligent homicide in 1975 shooting

Helen M. Levick of Hill Road pleaded guilty in Rensselaer County Court to criminally negligent homicide in the March 30 1975 death of her husband Michael Levick. She faces up to four years and will be sentenced December 2 after probation department recommendations.

One Arrest After Fight at Farmer's Inn

Hoosick Falls deputies report a fight Tuesday at the Farmer's Inn on Route 7 left two men injured and led to the arrest of Robert J. McGargin 28 of Cambridge. He was charged with two counts of third degree assault after complaints from a Bennington Vermont man and John W. Williams of Hoosick Falls. Both victims were treated at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington. McGargin arrested at 4 35 a.m.

Valatie man escapes in police car during arrest

Investigator R. T. Anslow and Troopers Chomycz and Gordonier pursued Ralph Pesce Jr. to arrest him on burglary and sexual abuse charges. A struggle sent them to a basement stairway. Pesce fled through a window and escaped in a green State Police car with keys in the ignition. The car was found in North Pownall, Vermont, at 3 a.m. with the suspect at large. Anslow was treated at Samaritan Hospital for injuries.
